Nymphaea glandulifera

Nymphaea glandulifera (synonym N. blanda) is a small-leaved water lily that grows from Central America to northern South America in moderately flowing, shaded to sunny waters.¹ Its submersed leaves are roundish to broadly elliptic, 5–8 cm wide and glossy light green above.¹ The white flowers open at night.¹²

With rosettes approx. 5–15 cm tall and many runners it is suitable for the foreground, even of smaller aquariums.¹ In loam it becomes more densely leaved, but sand is sufficient; according to the literature it needs little light.¹ The floating leaves, rare in the aquarium, are removed if no flowers are wanted.¹ The N. cf. glandulifera 'Rot' imported from Bolivia around 2003 belongs, according to one assessment, to N. gardneriana.³
