Echinodorus 'Harbich Rot'

Echinodorus 'Harbich Rot' is a cultivated hybrid with no natural occurrence, also listed as Echinodorus cordifolius 'Harbich Rot' or 'Harbich Red'.² Its oval leaves with a cordate base grow up to 20 cm long and 10 cm wide and are light to deep green, sometimes with reddish-brown spots.² Its parents are thought to be related to E. cordifolius and E. grandiflorus.¹ Under the name E. cordifolius 'Harbich', a cross is described whose leaves are often deformed and which is therefore hardly to be recommended; whether exactly this form is meant remains open.³

It is suitable for the midground or as a specimen plant and also grows emersed. Occasionally it pushes long-stalked leaves up to the water surface, which is favoured by shallow water, generous fertilisation and bright, long-lasting lighting.¹
