According to experience so far, this Bucephalandra is relatively undemanding, but grows and propagates only very slowly. The plant can be tied onto stones or driftwood or wedged between stones, but can also be planted in coarse substrate. In that case, however, the rhizome should not be buried, because it could otherwise rot. Although it also grows under low light, it reaches its full size and best colouration under plenty of light, good water movement, CO2 addition and regular fertilisation via the water column. Soft water is probably favourable. If Bucephalandra is planted in the substrate or attached to it, it seems to be grateful for nutrient-rich substrate or substrate fertilisation.
More or less constant conditions are favourable. With sudden changes in the water parameters, leaves may dissolve, similar to “Cryptocoryne rot”.
