The plants we call “Braun-rot” and “Braun-rot narrow” come from the Bucephalandra collection that W. A. Tomey introduced to Europe from the surroundings of Serimbu in West Kalimantan. They spread among aquarists from 2004 onwards and are thus among the first Bucephalandra plants to become known in the aquarium hobby, long before the current Bucephalandra “hype”.
These plants were at first designated Bucephalandra motleyana, following the concept of Bogner & Hay (2000), who distinguish only two Bucephalandra species (B. gigantea and B. motleyana). However, they do not belong to B. motleyana in the strict sense according to the concept of Wong & Boyce (2014). Until their species identity has been clarified, these plants are designated here as an unidentified species (Bucephalandra sp.).
Bucephalandra sp. “braun/rot - narrow” differs from B. sp. “braun-rot” in its more elongated, very narrowly lanceolate, softer leaves. The leaf margin is straight to slightly wavy.
