Bucephalandra motleyana 'Kapit' is an older trade name for a plant from the Kapit division in the south of Sarawak (Borneo) that is now listed as B. pygmaea 'Kapit'.1 The assignment is considered certain: this species, transferred from Microcasia in 2012, was also found in the Kapit division in 2011.23 The true B. motleyana is known only from Motley's original collection from south-eastern Kalimantan; it is not cultivated.4
In its natural habitat it densely covers slate along fast-flowing streams.1 The leaves are no more than about 1 cm wide, short-stalked and very tough; reddish below and dark green to almost blackish green above, they often have a grey-blue sheen.1 The very slow-growing plant clings firmly to stones and serves as an epiphyte on hardscape.1
