Re: Hymenophyllaceae sp. Wayanad

Probably India because the name Wayanad is the district in this country. But I also found information that it could be Crepidomanes Latemarginale. I don't know what is true.

Hi Vasteq,

finally a Hymenophyllaceae fern that grows and propagates permanently in the tank? Also from Your experience? That would be very cool!!
The Wayanad District is in the Indian state Kerala, belongs to the area of the Western Ghats: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayanad_district

Crepidomanes latemarginale is not in this list of Western Ghats Pteridophytes:
http://wgbis.ces.iisc.ernet.in/biodiver ... phytes.pdf
A similarly sounding name is Trichomanes (or Crepidomanes) intramarginale, this species occurs in the Western Ghats indeed:
http://pvmadhu.tripod.com/pterido-pages ... ramar.html
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crepidoman ... amarginale
Looks very similar to the aquarium fern, but there are further similar Trichomanes/Crepidomanes species.

The aquarium fern could be IDed with Prof. Madhusoodanan's book "Filmy Ferns of South India": http://pvmadhu.tripod.com/pterido.html or by the Prof himself.

I know also that it prefer cold water, and weak light. I have 22-23 degre in celcius, and 0,5W/L. I could send a sample to identity.

Hallo,

https://picasaweb.google.com/109837052880254682778/SouthIndia2012JanuaryAquaticPlantExpedition02?authuser=0&feat=directlink#5733114291077148242
https://picasaweb.google.com/109837052880254682778/SouthIndia2012JanuaryAquaticPlantExpedition02?authuser=0&feat=directlink
http://www.aquadiscover.com/last_trip.html

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1756-1051.1999.tb01112.x/abstract

Heiko

Hi there!

I had this plant in one of my last tanks. I got it as Crepidomanes malabaricum. For me the leafs seem to be kind of different shape and a bit wider than the pictures of Hymenophyllaceae. Sure, that these two species could be the same?!

Yes, in my opinion this is the same because leaves can be wider in better conditions.
