Rotala ramosior "Sunset"

Rotala ramosior 'Sunset' is a stem plant also referred to as Rotala sp. 'Sunset' or Ammannia sp. 'Sulawesi'.¹² It probably belongs to this species but has not been reliably identified; unlike the green plant from the USA, it has red submersed leaves.² The species itself grows as an annual in wet places from Canada to South America and has become naturalised in Asia.¹²

The elongated leaves with a light green midrib and base turn brownish red with a slight red-violet tone under good conditions and thus stand out against the green, straight, sparsely branched stems.¹ This demanding, light-hungry plant benefits from CO₂, substrate fertilisation and a steady supply of macro- and micronutrients.¹ It propagates slowly and tolerates hard pruning poorly, so top cuttings are best taken high up on the stems.¹ It provides red accents in the midground.
