Rotala macrandra 'Wavy' is listed as a synonym of the cultivar R. macrandra 'Green'.15 The species is native to India.3 In the south-west it grows in fertilised rice fields, flowing waters and sunny floodplains; according to Kasselmann, of the more recent forms of this variable species only 'Green' has so far been reliably assigned to it on the basis of flowers.4
Under strong light this relatively small cultivar turns reddish, and shoots with ovate to roundish, entire leaves may develop; under moderate light the elongated, distinctly toothed leaves remain rather light green and the stems reddish.245 Compared with the difficult original form it is regarded as easier to cultivate and more vigorous;4 it is rated partly as relatively easy, partly as difficult.25 It grows fast, belongs in the midground or background and, emersed, bears roundish green leaves and sometimes whitish flower spikes.25
