Rotala macrandra 'Green Narrow Leaf'

Rotala macrandra 'Green Narrow Leaf' is a cultivar in the loosestrife family. The species it belongs to, R. macrandra, is native to southern India; its specific epithet refers to the long stamens.¹ There it is found in permanently flowing waters, in heavily fertilised rice fields and on sunny ground that is flooded when rivers run high; near the coast it roots in nutrient-rich, fine-grained loam.¹

In the aquarium the cultivar is a fast-growing stem plant that is considered difficult and needs medium to strong light as well as plenty of CO₂. It is suitable for the background and midground, for nano aquariums and for plant streets in the Dutch style; it is propagated by cuttings and can also grow emersed.
