Range and localities [?]: Central and und South Japan
Rotala hippuris comes from central and southern Japan. This plant resembles the submersed form of R. wallichii, however, it develops larger sprouts and reddish-brown stems.
It was brought onto the market under the trade name
"Pogostemon stellatus 'Superfine'", amongst others.
R. hippuris is also quite similar to Rotala sp. "Vietnam", and it has to be clarified whether these two plants are identical.

The following information on cultivation is given on www.plantedtank.net1: Rotala hippuris is a moderately demanding plant that requires a good supply of CO2, macro- and micronutrients incl. iron. Very similar to Rotala wallichii and R. sp. "Vietnam", it can be regarded as a CO2 indicator plant, because its appearance suffers greatly from a lack of carbon dioxide.
Like other stem plants, this Rotala is easily propagated by top, side-shoot or section cuttings.
