Nesaea praetermissa is a synonym of Ammannia praetermissa: the species, described under Nesaea in 2012, was moved to Ammannia in 2013.23 From 1974 the plant appeared in the trade now and then, sometimes wrongly labelled N. crassicaulis, but long remained without a scientific name – hence the epithet (“overlooked”).2 In the aquarium hobby its origin is regarded as unknown, whereas POWO gives Senegal.234
The very narrow leaves are olive green to wine red, often with slightly wavy margins; they sit on thin, hard, dark red stems of this delicate plant, which grows only 10–15 cm tall.2 It is regarded as very difficult, needs plenty of CO₂, a steady nutrient supply, strong lighting and very soft, acidic water, and rarely persists in the aquarium for long.24
