Nesaea pedicellata is a synonym of Ammannia pedicellata; since 2013 all Nesaea species have been placed in Ammannia.23 This East African marsh plant is recorded from Tanzania including Mafia and Zanzibar and from Mozambique, and according to POWO also from south-eastern Kenya.234 At swamp margins and in pools it reaches up to 50 cm; its stems are green to dark red.2
This large-growing species suits the midground or background of tanks from about 190 l.4 CO₂ is not essential but makes it bushier; it should be fertilised regularly, as it recovers only slowly from deficiencies, especially of nitrogen.4 The shoots are planted with spacing so that light also reaches the lower parts; kept too dark, they stay small and the lower leaves turn blackish.2
