Under the name Myriophyllum elatinoides, a green-leaved form of Myriophyllum aquaticum that develops male flowers as an emersed plant is sold in the trade. For this plant see Myriophyllum aquaticum “Green”.
However, Myriophyllum elatinoides is not a synonym of M. aquaticum, but of Myriophyllum quitense, the Andean water milfoil.1 Myriophyllum quitense is distributed from North to South America and is practically unknown as an aquarium plant.
The name M. elatinoides has also been used for various Myriophyllum populations from Australia. According to Orchard (1981)1, these plants do not belong to M. quitense but represent three distinct species: Myriophyllum salsugineum, M. caput-medusae and M. porcatum.
