Description:

Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea' is a beautiful gold-coloured cultivar of Lysimachia nummularia. It is also known as golden creeping Jenny or moneywort.
It is not only used in the aquarium hobby, but its emersed form is also a very popular garden plant.

L. nummularia 'Aurea' is a relatively fast grower and at the same time it is quite undemanding. It does well in soft to hard water, pH values of 6 to 8 and temperatures of 15 to 26 °C are not a problem. Even though it does well under low lights and without CO2 injection, it prefers stronger light and CO2 supplementation.
An ample supply of nitrate and micronutrients is also recommendable. Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea' and Lysimachia nummularia are great indicator plants, as they need sufficient NO3 (>5 mg/l) to form robust healthy leaves of an intensive colour. Deficiencies cause the plant to stagnate.

Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea' has a rather vertical growth habit and does not grow too bushy to the sides, and accordingly it doesn't grow too many lateral shoots. When allowed to reach the water surface it continues growing emersed.
Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea' can easily be propagated by cutting off the top or some of the few lateral shoots. These are planted in the substrate after trimming. In general, Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea' forms quite a few roots on its nodes.

The ovate leaves of this stem plant are best presented in the middle- or background of an aquarium layout. Its light green to golden colour enriches many aquarium designs. Especially in Dutch-style tanks this plant is a true asset due to its leaf structure and its beautiful colour.
