Lagarosiphon cordofanus

Lagarosiphon cordofanus is a submersed stem plant of the frogbit family from Cameroon and from southern and eastern Africa. It has been observed floating freely in fully sunlit, seasonal waters in Zambia and Tanzania up to approx. 1 m deep.¹ It differs from L. madagascariensis in, among other things, marginal teeth set on triangular projections; the narrow leaves, 1–3 cm long, are light green and translucent.¹²

In the aquarium it grows fast but is considered difficult and is planted in groups in the midground or background.¹ Plenty of light is essential; added CO₂ often helps, and soft, acidic to neutral water suits it best.¹ Its few roots serve mainly for anchorage.¹ It is propagated by cuttings or side shoots; it is rare in cultivation today.¹
