Echinodorus 'Spidernet' was bred by Tomas Kaliebe (Altlandsberg) by crossbreeding E. 'Kleiner Baer' and E. 'Grosser Baer'. It was brought onto the market in 2002.
The most striking characteristic of this variety are the submersed leaves' dark red lateral veins on olive-green ground, which the name affix also refers to.
