Echinodorus 'Smaragd'

Echinodorus 'Smaragd' was selectively bred by Hans Barth, it is a smaller-growing exclusively green mutant of E. 'Rubin'. This variety will probably be brought into trade by aquatic plant nursery Oliver Krause (Dessau, Germany).
E. 'Smaragd has lineal leaves, much like E. uruguayensis, with a medium green basic colour and lighter-coloured leaf veins. Like its parent variety 'Rubin', E. 'Smaragd' has clearly distinct leaf veins. Its leaf blades grow up to 15 cm long and 2.5 to 3 cm wide, the leaf stalk grows to a length of up to 10 cm.
This variety only requires moderate light. Due to its small size it can be a good alternative to the larger-growing forms of Echinodorus uruguayensis for medium-sized tanks.
