Bucephalandra sp. “Pancur Aji” is a relatively large Bucephalandra form. The trade name has mostly been written “Pancuraji”. It probably refers to the Pancur Aji waterfall (pronounced “Pantschur Adshi”) in West Kalimantan.
This Bucephalandra has rather dark green, obovate to obovate-lanceolate, tough leaves. The leaf tip is somewhat pointed to blunt, but not broadly rounded. Especially the newly emerging leaves can show reddish-brown tones. The rhizome is strong and grows rather upright when the plant is cultivated under water.
This plant was at first assigned here to Bucephalandra motleyana, following the concept of Bogner & Hay (2000), who distinguish only two Bucephalandra species (B. gigantea and B. motleyana). However, it does not belong to B. motleyana in the strict sense according to the concept of Wong & Boyce (2014). As long as its species identity has not been clarified, the plant is called Bucephalandra sp. “Pancur Aji” here.
