Bucephalandra sp. 'Melawi' is, like 'Titan', a trade name for Bucephalandra sordidula.2 The plants imported in 2011 were first sold as B. cf. motleyana; they were later identified from flower photographs.1 According to a forum post, however, potted plants offered as “Melawi” turned out to be B. pygmaea 'Bukit Kelam/Sintang'.1 B. sordidula differs from the latter in, among other things, reddish brown rather than white thecae and a longer flower stalk and spadix.4
B. sordidula grows as a rheophyte on granite rock along streams; in 2014 it was known only from its type locality near Nanga Pinoh in the Melawi regency (West Kalimantan).234 Its creeping rhizomes branch into dense mats; the narrow leaves have a wavy to crisped margin and new growth is reddish to brownish.124 In the aquarium it grows slowly, is considered easy and can be attached in the midground and in nano aquariums.2
