Bacopa crenata

As a marsh plant, Bacopa crenata lives in wet to damp places; even fairly dry spots in full sun are colonised.¹ The species name alludes to the crenate leaf margin.¹ The hairless, fleshy stems creep along the ground or ascend; the sessile, opposite leaves are lanceolate to ovate and light green under water, and the flowers are white to pale pink.¹ When submersed it is easily confused with Limnophila aromatica.²

This slow-growing species is considered demanding and is only rarely cultivated.¹ It needs plenty of light; slightly acidic, soft to medium-hard water and a nutrient-rich substrate that is not too coarse-grained, in which it roots quickly, are also beneficial.¹ It is particularly recommended for paludariums, where it flowers and sets fruit readily.¹ Groups are best built up from emersed-grown cuttings, as it hardly branches under water.¹
