A small-growing vallisneria with spirally twisted leaves is in the trade under the name Vallisneria americana 'Mini Twister'. According to information from the company Tropica, this Vallisneria form originates from Southeast Asia. Molecular systematic studies (Les & al. 2008) have shown that the species Vallisneria americana is restricted to the American continent and that vallisnerias native to Asia belong to other species. 'Mini Twister' is therefore unlikely to belong to V. americana.
However, we do not know whether this small vallisneria form has been identified more precisely yet. It is therefore called Vallisneria sp. 'Mini Twister' here.
