Echinodorus palaefolius is a widespread but incorrect spelling of E. palifolius, now Aquarius palifolius.124 It is native to eastern Brazil, and an occurrence in the Mexican state of Nayarit is also given.246
Under water this vigorous marsh plant bears narrow, light green blades and, emersed, broadly ovate, leathery leaves on long, longitudinally grooved petioles.46 This undemanding, fast-growing species has been kept since the early 1970s.46 Larger plants push long-stalked leaves out of the water; removing them at once produces shorter-stalked ones only temporarily.456 The plant, reaching approx. 1 m in height, is therefore better suited to open tanks and large paludaria.45 In the trade it is often wrongly called E. argentinensis (a synonym of the quite different E. grandiflorus), and a broad-leaved form also E. rigidifolius, a botanically invalid name.34
